Sew Smart Teens Lab - Machine Applique Messenger Bag with Laurie Alice

Are you ready for spring-like colors?? Chase away those mid-winter blues by making a bright, colorful, and unique project! You will learn how to design and create your own messenger bag -- with your unique flair! Using basic machine stitches -- straight stitch and zig-zag -- you will machine applique onto the large flap cover of your messenger bag. This can be ANY design you'd like! All fabrics and materials are provided for you to use.
Laurie Alice will guide you through all the steps needed to create a beautiful, functional, and one-of-a-kind messenger bag! This bag will be fully lined and have a single cross-body-length strap – designed for security and mobility. The flap closure of the bag will be embellished with machine-applique – designed and stitched by you! This class is limited to 6 students to maximize guidance by the instructor.
What is provided:

Canvas fabric for main bag (green, tan, blue or burgundy to choose from)

Quilting cotton for the lining – a choice of colorful options will be provided

Various bright and neutral colored fabric pieces for the applique

Fusible interfacing & fusible fleece

Woven strap

Seam Gauge

Scissors

Small Ruler

Pins or fabric clips

Seam ripper

Spool of bright thread - whatever is your favorite color (Navy, purple, green, red, or pink) This will be used for the applique and top stitching.

Spool of neutral-colored thread (tan, or grey) This is for the inside seams.
NOTE: If you plan to use your own sewing machine, be sure it is in good working order. Also, please bring the power cord, foot pedal, standard presser foot and zig zag foot (if different)
Skills learned – Safely cut fabric with either scissor, create straight and curved seams, clip corners and curves, machine applique scraps to create an interesting design, top stitch for a professional finish!
Prerequisite – Machine Basics 101 or similar experience.
