Scrappy Zipper Quilt with Judy Doenias
Duration: 3 hrs.
Do you want to spend a few hours with quilters who would like to have fun with scrappy strips to make a simple but exciting quilt top. Judy envisions a class that utilizes one’s own fabric and encourages you to share fabrics with others to have an unexpected outcome. This class can appeal to everyone from beginners to experts.
Supply list:
Sewing machine with neutral thread. If you can’t bring your own, you can reserve one from the store in advance
Rotary cutter and medium sized mat
Quilter’s ruler that is at least 2 1/2 inches wide and at least 12” long
Thin pins, scissors, seam ripper, and other sewing needs you like
Fabrics:
Scrappy fabric pieces that are at least 9” long and as wide as you like. Remember the fun part is to share. You will be cutting strips anywhere from 1 1/2” to 2 1/2” inches wide and width. All of Judy’s samples are cut 1 1/2”. She spent many days cutting 1 1/2” strips to share. Your fabrics can be chosen by color, pattern or be random for the ultimate scrappy look. Please use only cotton.
For the zipper effect choose a color that will contrast with your fabrics. Judy chose yellow, gold, or white for her samples, but you can choose whatever you like. The quilt you choose to make can be any size, so 1 yd of the zipper fabric will suffice unless you choose to make a large quilt.
