Duration: 12 hours divided into 3 sessions

Sessions: 3 (June 20, July 11, July 18 PM)

The course is structured across 3 sessions:

June 20 - 6 hours (10:30 AM - 4:30 PM)
July 11 - 3 hours (10:30 Am - 1:30 PM)
July 18 - 3 hours (10:30 AM - 1:30PM)

This class is designed as an introduction to Ruler Work.  For those that may have created the “Quilted Star “with Laurie, this is a further exploration of that design motif plus more! We will create a small quilt using the rulers and templates  designed by Westalee Design.  We will discuss how to put it all together using the Quilt As You Go method. By the end of the project you should feel familiar with using some of the ruler work tools and using that knowledge to become more creative with how you place and stitch around your templates.

Materials Needed:

  • Ruler Foot - Designed for your sewing machine
  • Westalee Design 12″ Arc  Westalee Design 6 Piece Sampler Set
  • Westalee Design Spacing Gauge (recommended)
  • Westalee Design Crosshair Ruler for marking crosshair reference lines (recommended)
  • Westalee Design Stable Tape (recommended)
  • Sewing machine in good working order
  • Supreme Slider or Free Motion Glider
  • Thread for quilting= 50 Weight Cotton Thread. It should Contrast your top quilt fabric
  • Marking tool - Like a chalk marker, water soluble marker, or Frixion Pen
  • Machingers for holding your fabric securely
  • Scissors or snips
  • Needles hand – self threading (optional for class)
Fabric Preparation:
  • The Top fabric should be a solid or a blender that will showcase the ruler work design.
  • For the First Session: You will need to create 4 Quilt Sandwiches that are 16” x 16” comprising a top fabric, batting, and a backing fabric
  • For the Second Session: You will need to create 4 Quilt Sandwiches that are 28” x 10”
  • For the Third Session: You will be creating the center medallion which is a 28”x 28” square.
  • Cover Strips to join the Units: 
    • Strips of the Following lengths: 4 x 6.5”
    • 2 x 36.5 , and 2 x 24.5”
  • Binding: 4 Strips measuring 2.5” x Width of Fabric
